Haswell-E is the very latest performance oriented architecture from Intel

Haswell-E is the very latest performance oriented architecture from Intel, predominantly developed to create the next generation of Xeon server chips, but for those of us who need the absolute maximum performance, Intel also has its line of Extreme Edition desktop CPUs that are based on the same architecture. Derived from the more mainstream Haswell architecture, the Haswell-E based Intel Core i7-5960X Extreme Edition used in the demo is effectively the new top dog in enthusiast computing. It is a quad core chip clocked at 3GHz with a Turbo clock of up to 3.5GHz, a massive 20MB of smart cache and a whopping TDP of 140 watts. The Core i7-5960X alone will cost you above $1000 USD.
However, if you are going to run Crysis on a 12k resolution rig, you need some very serious graphics processing, and this rig does not disappoint; it has no less than four NVIDIA Titan cards, served up in an SLI configuration that takes advantage of the Core i7-5960X’s 40 PCIe lanes. The first card gets a full x16 PCIe lanes while the other 3 get 8x lanes each. The result is probably the most powerful PC you can build right now.

ODG R-7 Smartglass

As the industry attempts to figure out in what form factor wearables will first be useful, the Osterhout Design Group has come out with the R-7 Smartglass which comes with its own processor and a pair of 3D stereoscopic see-through HD displays. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 (MSM8084), a 2.7Ghz quad-core processor which is developed specifically with high-compute powered devices in mind. There is in fact enough going on to justify this much processing power; the two 720p displays are each capable of 100 frames-per-second, and are independently powered along side a 720p camera.

Other specifications include 4GB of RAM and between 16GB – 128GB of storage, all powered by a 1,440mAh battery. The glasses run a customized Android OS which has an interface made specifically for Wearables. ODG calls it the ReticleOS and it is based off of Android 4.4.2. Kit Kat. There are plenty of sensors to keep the Internet of Things data cruncher happy;  3 accelerometers, 3 gyroscopic sensors, and 3 magnetometer sensors. a pressure sensor plus a humidity sensor to boot.

A 5-inch 480 x 854 display takes up the front of the lenovo A330E

Looking for an affordable Android phone, but don’t want to go down the Mediatek route? Well take a good look at the Snapdragon powered Lenovo A330E.
While we would all love to have a powerful flagship phone, it isn’t always possible or needed, and a lower powered handset might be more suitable. The Lenovo A330E, coming soon, will sit at the very beginning of their smartphone line up, but pack the new Snapdragon 200 chip.
The little Lenovo will be taking on phones which will primarily be powered by budget dual core Mediatek chips, and as such the Qualcom MSM8610 Snapdragon 200 is a dual-core chip with dual SIM capabilities.
A 5-inch 480 x 854 display takes up the front of the A330E with wide bezels giving the phone overall dimensions of 142.5 x 72.5 x 9.9mm. 4GB meory, a 2 mega-pixel camera and a 2000mAh battery make up the rest of the phone, and should ensure the phone comes well under budget.
They only eyebrow raising details of the phone is the use Android 4.3 when the phone is only running 512mb RAM, seems odd considering Android 4.4 has been available for months and is better suited to low RAM environments.
Lenovo will release the Lenovo A330E at the end of the months with the companies social network channels being the main retail method.

The ZTE ZMax is quite the break through for ZTE

It’s common to see great value Chinese smartphones, but it isn’t all that common to see them launch across the pond in the U.S and remain competitively priced, well not until the release of the new ZTE ZMax.
The ZTE ZMax is quite the break through for ZTE, one which is already being compared to the excellent Moto G, and a phone that costs only $230!
The ZMax was launched during an event in New York, where special guests were able to get their hands on the budget phablet ahead of customers. The launch announced that the 5.7-inch phone will only be sold through TMobile, who will have the option to pay the phone off over 24 months for only $10.50 a month.
Normally when we see a phone priced this competitively outside of China alarm bells start to ring once looking at the hardware, but a scan of the ZTE Zmax specs sheet reveals some excellent component choices. For example the large screen is a 1280 x 720 HD model, the processor is a quad-core Snapdragon 400, with 2GB RAM and there is even a huge 3400mAh battery under the hood!
And yes the ZTE Zmax is an LTE device, and it has an SD card memory slot and test it is running Android 4.4 Kitkat, which looks to be pretty much a stock install.
We’ve and had are hands on the phone yet, but those who have do comment that is is a rather bulky phone, however for the price, and for those specifications it still seems like a bargain to us!

TCL, or Alactel OneTouch, depending on here you live, have announced the Hero 2 6-inch phablet with added LTE.
When TCL released the Hero this year, it was the first, and remained the only (until recently) smartphone to use the 2.0Ghz Mediatek MT6592T octacore processor. The phone also hosted a large display that took up almost 90% of the front of the phone.
For the TCL Hero 2 the design remains similar with a 6-inch 1080 display ,and ergonomic alloy body creating one of the most comfortable and lightweight 6-inch phablets on the market at only 175g.
The Hero 2 gets a stylus, allowing you to make handwritten notes, edit files and photos and generally interact with the phone for productive and even gaming purposes. There is also an interesting mini DJ panel that lets you mix your own tracks too.
As for hardware the phone gets the same 2.0Ghz Mediatek MT6592 processor, but this is now coupled with an MT6290 LTE modem for 4G LTE Cat 4 support. The 6-inch display is an OGS, fully laminated Dragontail panel with an oleophobic coating to keeps smudges and smears sat bay.
Android 4.4 Kitkat, a 13 mega-pixel main camera and large 3100mAh battery make up the rest of the package. Pricing in China won’t be cheap with Chinese tech sites quoting a price of around 2999 Yuan for the 6-inch device.
What do you think of the latest TCL smartphone, good value or were you hoping for more bang for your buck?

UMi Zero leaked images

Leaked press images from a UMi presentation have been sent to us which focus on the UMi Zero ’Superbody’ construction and high quality materials.
We are actually quietly expectant about the UMi Zero, and are excited to see exactly what UMi have managed to produce for their next flagship device, and teasers such as these are just wetting our appetite!
These latest images along with some text explain that the construction process which, UMi are calling a “Superbody”, is actually a term they are using to describe the alloy chassis of the new phone. According to the leaks provided by our sources, the UMi Zero’s chassis is made of a aircraft grade alloy, placing it in the same league as the Meizu MX4 and the iPhone 6.
In fact UMi aren’t shy about the iPhone 6 comparisons and have even shown the 6.9mm iPhone 6 in comparison to their own 6.4mm Zero along with the thicker Meizu MX4 and Xiaomi Mi4. With these comparisons in mind it is clear to see that UMi are hoping to take their place at the top of the Chinese market, but specification will determine how well they can compete.
As for the specs, only a few details are known to be concrete, and those include a battery that will be larger than 2000mAh and the use of a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 Samsung Super AMOLED display. Still a rare site on phones from 3rd parties, and a detail that could help the UMi sit above similar phones.
